Once you receive your UK VAT number, follow these steps to add it to your Shopify store to ensure proper tax handling and compliance.
1. Log in to Shopify
- Go to Shopify Admin and log in to your store.
2. Navigate to Tax Settings
- From the Shopify dashboard, click “Settings” in the bottom left corner.
- Select “Taxes and duties” from the menu.
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Scroll down to the United Kingdom section under “Manage tax registrations.”
- Click “Collect VAT” (or “Add tax registration” if not already enabled).
- Enter your UK VAT number in the provided field.
- Shopify may request additional details such as the VAT registration date—ensure you use the correct start date from your VAT certificate.
4. Save Changes
- Click “Save” to apply the VAT number to your store.
- Shopify will now handle UK VAT collection based on your registration.
5. Verify VAT Collection (Optional but Recommended)
- Go to Products and select an item available for UK sales.
- Click “Preview” and add the product to the cart.
- Proceed to checkout and confirm that VAT is applied correctly.

WOOCOMMERCE
Once you receive your UK VAT number, follow these steps to add it to WooCommerce to ensure proper VAT collection and compliance.
1. Log in to WordPress Admin
- Go to your WordPress Admin Dashboard and log in.
2. Navigate to WooCommerce Tax Settings
- In the left-hand menu, go to WooCommerce > Settings.
- Click on the Tax tab. (If the Tax tab is not visible, enable tax settings in WooCommerce: WooCommerce > Settings > General > Enable taxes.)
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Under Standard Rates, click Insert Row.
- Enter the following details:
- Country Code: GB (for the United Kingdom)
- VAT Rate: 20 (Standard VAT rate) (Adjust if selling reduced VAT goods.)
- Name: “UK VAT” (for reference)
- Priority: 1
- Leave other fields blank unless specific adjustments are needed.
3. Click Save changes.
4. Enable VAT Calculation at Checkout
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Tax.
- Set Prices entered with tax to “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax”.
- Under Display prices in the shop, choose “Including tax” if you want to display VAT-inclusive prices.
- Under Tax options, make sure the calculation is set to “Based on customer’s shipping address” for accurate VAT application.
- Click Save changes.
5. Verify VAT Collection (Recommended)
- Add a product to the cart.
- Proceed to checkout and enter a UK shipping address.
- Confirm that VAT is correctly applied at the checkout.

SHOPWARE
Once you receive your UK VAT number, follow these steps to add it to Shopware and ensure proper VAT collection and compliance.
1. Log in to Shopware Admin
- Go to your Shopware Admin Dashboard and log in.
2. Navigate to Tax Settings
- In the left-hand menu, go to Settings > Shop > Taxes.
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Click Add Tax (or edit an existing UK tax rule).
- Enter the following details:
- Name: “UK VAT”
- Tax Rate: 20% (standard UK VAT rate) (Adjust if selling reduced VAT goods.)
- Country: Select United Kingdom (GB).
- Click Save.
4. Assign VAT to Your Products
- Go to Catalogues > Products.
- Select a product and scroll down to Tax settings.
- Ensure the UK VAT rate is assigned to applicable products.
- Click Save.
5. Enable VAT Calculation at Checkout
- Go to Settings > Shop > Countries.
- Select United Kingdom and ensure VAT calculation is enabled.
- Under Business settings, make sure VAT is applied based on the customer’s shipping address.
- Click Save.
6. Verify VAT Collection (Recommended)
- Add a product to the cart.
- Proceed to checkout and enter a UK shipping address.
- Confirm that VAT is correctly applied.

WIX
Once you receive your UK VAT number, follow these steps to add it to your Wix store and ensure proper VAT collection and compliance.
1. Log in to Your Wix Account
- Go to Wix and log in to your account.
- In the left-hand menu, select Settings.
2. Navigate to Tax Settings
- Under Settings, go to eCommerce & Finance > Tax.
- Click Get Started (if you haven’t set up tax before).
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Click Add Tax Region and select United Kingdom.
- Enter your UK VAT number in the required field.
- Set up Automatic Tax Calculation (recommended) or configure tax rates manually:
- Standard VAT rate: 20%
- Adjust for reduced VAT rates if applicable.
- Click Save.
4. Ensure VAT is Applied at Checkout
- Go to Settings > eCommerce & Finance > Tax.
- Make sure tax calculation is set to Based on Customer’s Location.
- Enable Include Tax in Product Prices if you want to display VAT-inclusive pricing.
- Click Save.
5. Verify VAT Collection (Recommended)
- Add a product to your cart.
- Proceed to checkout and enter a UK shipping address.

Once you receive your UK VAT number, follow these steps to add it to your OpenCart store to ensure proper VAT collection and compliance.
1. Log in to OpenCart Admin
- Go to your OpenCart Admin Dashboard and log in.
2. Navigate to Tax Settings
- In the left-hand menu, go to System > Localisation > Taxes.
- Click on Tax Rates.
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Click Add New.
- Fill in the following details:
- Tax Name: “UK VAT”
- Tax Rate: 20.0000 (Standard UK VAT rate) (Adjust for reduced VAT goods if applicable.)
- Type: Select Percentage.
- Customer Group: Select the applicable customer groups (e.g., Retail, Wholesale).
- Geo Zone: Select United Kingdom.
- Click Save.
4. Assign VAT to Products
- Go to Catalog > Products.
- Select a product and click Edit.
- Under the Data tab, scroll to Tax Class and choose UK VAT.
- Click Save.
5. Enable VAT Calculation at Checkout
- Go to Extensions > Extensions > Select Order Totals from the dropdown.
- Find Taxes and click Edit.
- Set Status to Enabled.
- Click Save.
6. Verify VAT Collection (Recommended)
- Add a product to the cart.
- Proceed to checkout and enter a UK shipping address.
- Confirm that VAT is correctly applied.

1. Log in to Your Squarespace Account
- Go to Squarespace and log in to your account.
- In the left-hand menu, select Settings.
2. Navigate to Tax Settings
- Under Settings, go to Commerce > Taxes.
- Click Add Tax Rate if setting up VAT for the first time.
3. Add Your UK VAT Number
- Under Tax Regions, select United Kingdom.
- Enter your UK VAT number in the provided field.
- Choose the tax collection method:
- Automatic tax calculation (recommended).
- Manual tax rate entry:
- Standard VAT rate: 20%.
- Adjust for reduced VAT rates if applicable.
- Click Save.
4. Ensure VAT is Applied at Checkout
- Make sure Enable Taxes is switched on.
- Set tax calculation to Based on Customer’s Location.
- If you want prices to display VAT-inclusive amounts, enable Include Tax in Product Prices.
- Click Save.
5. Verify VAT Collection (Recommended)
- Add a product to the cart.
- Proceed to checkout and enter a UK shipping address.
